At Pocket Casts, we keep track of all of your feature requests and, at the top of the list, has been improving our search functionality. We’ve been hard at work on this, and we’re excited to update you on our progress!
Podcast Search
Earlier this year, we unveiled an upgraded version of our podcast search functionality, which involved migrating from MySQL database to Elasticsearch. This transition has unlocked the full potential of Elasticsearch; our search response times have improved, and it has allowed us to introduce text searching capabilities such as fuzzy matching. In addition, we expanded the range of searchable fields, which means more podcasts are being found with every search.
Episode Search
Now we have released an exciting new episode search feature! Previously, you could only search for episodes within individual podcasts. But now, you can search for episodes across our entire directory of podcasts, making it possible to discover and listen to episodes that interest you.
Looking for interviews with your favorite actor, for example? Just type in their name, and our new search will bring up a list of episodes they’ve been on (hi Drew!).
