Many of you who previously purchased the mobile app(s) have asked questions regarding our latest release. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions, along with our answers. We’ll continue to add to this list as new questions arise.

1. I bought the mobile app previously on Android and/or iOS, why don’t I receive a free Pocket Casts Plus subscription?

Our mobile apps are now free. In taking this step we have neither removed features nor placed any previously existing functionality behind a paywall. Everything you paid for is still available to you, and more. Further, we will continue to update and enhance these apps, which remain our core focus.

Desktop App users, on the other hand, are in a different situation because these apps are now part of Pocket Cast Plus and sit behind a paywall. Because these users purchased the Desktop App with the understanding that they’d pay only once, and in recognition of their initial commitment, we’ve given them a lifetime Pocket Casts Plus subscription.

2. As someone who paid for the app previously, why don’t I receive any recognition for my loyalty?

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your support. It is because of your loyalty that we were able to build the product into what it is today, and we don’t take that for granted.

Some of you have suggested that we should offer some kind of recognition for your previous support. Our intention is to do that by focusing our efforts on the app as a whole. We’ll continue to improve and update the mobile apps with each release. For example, our upcoming release includes dark mode support, with more great features already in the works.

3. When I sign in to my account (from the Profile screen) it says I have a “Free Account,” even though I previously paid for the app. Why?

We acknowledge that this language caused confusion, so we’re changing it in the next release.
