Sabrina: Celebrating Dinosaurs

Sabrina is an indie podcaster and writer. She’s one half of the duo behind the award-winning dinosaur podcast I Know Dino, which she creates with her husband Garret. Their latest book, I Know Dino!, was published by National Geographic Kids. Learn more about Sabrina and get fun dino facts at iknowdino.com.

Embrace your inner science nerd and celebrate dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The podcasts in this list explore paleontology in all its quirky glory—perfect for binging in anticipation of the latest Jurassic World movie. (And no, dinosaurs are not just for kids.)

I Know Dino

My husband Garret and I started our podcast 10 years ago (after our dinosaur-themed wedding) when we realized new dinosaurs were being discovered pretty much every week. We explore the latest dino news, chat with paleo experts, dive deep into a “dinosaur of the day” and fun fact, play dino games, and connect dinosaurs to topics ranging from chocolate to the Titanic to hallucinogenic fungi. And of course we talk about dinosaur shows, like Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. We’re huge dinosaur nerds and we welcome all fellow enthusiasts!

The Common Descent Podcast

David and Will do a fantastic job covering fossils, evolution, deep time, and more. Paleontology isn’t just about dinosaurs, and with Common Descent you’ll learn about things like parasitic plants, the ancient history of bears, and the time the Mediterranean Sea dried up.

Eons: Surviving Deep Time

Have you ever wondered how long you could survive if you were dropped into a particular period of the geologic past? The lovely PBS Eons team covers every aspect you’d need to consider: predators, food sources, environmental hazards, and those pesky, terrifying extinction events. The Great Dying got its nickname for a reason.

Weird & Dead

Amy and Meaghan, two self-proclaimed gossips, talk about evolution’s most embarrassing and bizarre stories. You’ll hear about animals that fossilized together, everything that ate our ancestors (watch out for seals), and dinosaur sex. It’s a lot of fun, but this one is not meant for kids!

Pals in Palaeo

Australia is brimming with cool paleontology, from a honking huge “marsupial rhino” to titanosaur dinosaurs to a pterosaur with a wingspan of 13 feet (which the host, Adele studied and named)! This podcast is full of interesting facts from around the world, and Simpsons references.

Terrible Lizards

David and Iszi chat about pterosaurs, dinosaurs, and the history of paleontology. There’s lots of good stuff here, especially about prehistoric animals found in the U.K.

Fossils & Fiction

Paleo is about prehistoric life, yes, but it’s also about the people who study it. Travis and Alyssa do an excellent job discussing both the science and culture of paleontology, and how they impact society. Think of series like Dinotopia and infamous hoaxes like the Cardiff Giant.

The Jurassic Park Podcast

I have to include at least one Jurassic Park podcast on this list, and Brad and the team do an amazing job of covering all aspects of the franchise: the books, the movies, the TV shows, the toys, the music, the theme parks, the games, and more. They have a big team, and it’s fun to listen to. Maybe watch out for spoilers though.

Fossil Huntress

This podcast is a treat for your ears. It’s so soothing, and paints vivid scenes of the past. It’s more scripted than the other podcasts on this list, and episodes are shorter, so it doesn’t take long to binge.

Dinosaur George

George’s show is technically for kids, but there are plenty of topics adults would also appreciate. He talks about dinosaurs (why did Irritator get its harsh name?) and other animals, like the ferocious reptiles that were king of the sea and pterosaurs that lived in the desert.

Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs

This one is for the artists who also love paleo. Artists, writers, and scientists come together to cover Mesozoic life through art and pop culture. A highlight is the Vintage Dinosaur Art series, which looks at older dinosaur books through a modern lens.

Juras-sick Park-cast

This Jurassic podcast is for those who love to read. Ryan chats with guests about the novel that started the whole franchise: Jurassic Park. It’s the ultimate book club discussion, with entertaining science sprinkled in.

Dinosaurs Will Always Be Awesome

Jimmy is full of energy and enthusiasm, and this podcast has a mix of bite-sized and longer episodes about the wonders of paleo and the people who work in it. Fun fact: DWABA is also a mobile natural history museum!

Prehistoric Life

Started by a student, Prehistoric Life also has a mix of shorter and longer episodes. Erik does a great job breaking down dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Plus there’s a Minecraft Dinosaur Series.

Palaeo After Dark

James, Amanda, and Curtis are three scientist friends who chat about scientific papers, sometimes with drinks involved. They have a lot of lively banter, while breaking down concepts and letting us know how animals changed over time.

Paleo Nerds

Ray and David interview scientists and fellow paleo nerds, which they aptly define as “a grown-up who still has the child-like wonder and love for dinosaurs, fossils, science, and paleontology.”

See Jurassic Right

Dinosaurs, movies, and museums, oh my. Steven covers Jurassic Park and other films. It’s not strictly a dinosaur podcast, but there are many great conversations about Walking with Dinosaurs, Godzilla, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, and more.
