Dan Ahdoot

Dan Ahdoot is a comedian, restauranteur and amateur chef. He’s one of the stars of the upcoming Kevin James series on Netflix, The Crew, he currently stars in Netflix's hit Cobra Kai, and was a regular on NBC’s Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. Dan has developed shows with FOX, CBS, and Hulu, and is a frequent guest on The Tonight Show, Comedy Bang Bang, and SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins. Dan interned as a chef at The Spotted Pig in New York City, and is part owner of the restaurant Estela, also in New York.

On Green Eggs and Dan, we ask comedians, writers, actors, and chefs to send in a picture of their fridge, and then we break it down with them via interview. What does the food in your fridge say about you? Have you ever been surprised about something you found in a friend’s fridge? Does the ratio of takeout containers to homemade meals say something about who you are? There might be more truth to the saying, “you are what you eat” than we’ve ever thought before… In service of our love and respect for the knowledge that food can bring into our lives, and just in time for everyone's favorite food holiday – Thanksgiving – I've come up with a list of podcasts that blends my not-so-unique love of food and comedy. Hopefully it gives you something fun to discuss during your meals.

Green Eggs and Dan

This one's mine, so I'm biased. Taking a new look at “you are what you eat,” I bring you, the listener, in on conversations about food, life, and more, with some of my most entertaining friends. Each episode starts with us looking through the actual fridge of my guest! Kinky. Not your typical, holier-than-thou food show, Green Eggs and Dan is the type of food podcast you’d make with your friends around the table, roasting more than just the food.

List-Pick-2@2x-1

Doughboys

I love this show. Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger talk about fast food with the Talmudic intensity it deserves.  If you love to hear people yell at each other about which McDonalds sauce is the best chicken nugget dipping condiment and why, this show is for you. (It’s BBQ by the way. And if you think it’s sweet and sour, you’re a disgusting human being who only deserves the worst in life.)

List-Pick-3@2x-1

The MeatEater Podcast

Steve Rinella is a personal idol of mine, and a big part of the reason I became a hunter. He’s equal parts conversationalist, riveting raconteur, and passionate foodie. He will make you think about what you eat in a way that’s not preachy or annoying. If you’re a meat eater, yet you could never imagine harvesting your own meat, give this podcast a shot.

List-Pick-4@2x-1

Life’s a Banquet with Zahra Tangorra & Nicole Bailey

This show is hilarious.  Zahra and Nicole are two of the funniest people in podcast-ville, and they have the food chops to round it all out. Zahra is even a chef and was the owner of an award winning Brooklyn restaurant. You’ll feel like one of the cool kids sipping natural wines at a hip Brooklyn restaurant for this glorious hour.

List-Pick-5@2x-1

Yelling About Pâté

I’m always stoked to find stand-up comics who care about food as much as I do because it’s very rare. Well Karl Hess doesn’t just match up with my food bona fides, he might have me beat! And for that, I make him my mortal enemy for life. Karl and co-host Joel Miller are full of passion and hilarity as they take you down food rabbit holes that you will never get out of. We still angry text each other on the regular because I made the mistake of saying natural wine sucks on his podcast, and he will try to prove me wrong until the day he dies.

List-Pick-6@2x-1

Gastropod

Food with a side of science and history! Every other week, co-hosts Cynthia Graber and Nicola Twilley serve up a brand new episode exploring the hidden history and surprising science behind a different food – did you know that the Nazis created the Jell-O shot?!?! Wait. That one's not true.

List-Pick-7@2x-1

Food, We Need to Talk

This short series documents one woman's quest to end her war with food. Hosts Juna Gjata and Dr. Eddie Phillips wield science, medical knowledge and common sense to teach us how to eat better and feel better about it. This is a show for anyone who loves food and has struggled with their weight, but rather than providing a bunch of tips on what not to eat, they dig into the science behind how to eat. And eat well we DO!

List-Pick-8@2x-1

Spilled Milk

Every week on Spilled Milk, writers/comedians Molly Wizenberg and Matthew Amster-Burton start with a food-related topic, from apples to winter squash, and run with it as far as they can go — and, regrettably, sometimes further. I was on an episode last year digging into pancetta. Do you know how much I have to say about pancetta?!?! Way more than I thought.
